Not sure they still do it but we used to have cops in vans that would pick off speeders with photo radar. I got a ticket and went to court. The prosecutor, before trial, came to me and said, unless you can show a reason why we shouldn't go ahead we will. I replied, the car in the picture is a 67 Coronet, the plate belongs to a 84 station wagon, thus the dispute. She was unable to figure out the discrepancy and dismissed the ticket. What happened was, the wagon wouldn't start, so I threw the plates on the Coronet. Had they actually pulled me over they would have had me for speeding and driving without insurance.

So you are bragging about this?

I tell my kids that they can get away with a lot of things, but don't race, drive drunk, drive without insurance, or swap plates. Around here you can buy your way out of anything else in the courthouse. The aforementioned are things they take real serious. Oh yeah, don't park in handicapped parking either.

We have photo cameras set up at different intersections around the area. Tickets are sent to the owner of the tag on the car. Doesn't matter who the driver is.

Even if you had gotten pulled over you'd have gotten off lucky.

Around here, you do a plate swap without a registration swap to go with it, they can impound the car.

That's not something I would openly admit on the internet.
why? there's nothing anyone can do now. It's a good story and he got LUCKY, screw around like that here in Mass. and see what happens!! There aren't a lot of cameras YET, but get pulled over and you've got attaching plates and speeding to start with - the plates violation makes the car illegally on the road and you may not continue on - car gets towed (minimum $50) and you need to get a ride. They ARE going to search the car and very likely do a field sobriety test on you - fail either of those and you do not pass go, you go directly to jail. If it's a Friday and no one can bail you out - you stay there until Monday when they escort you to court. After you are formally charged you can go home. - not that I would know anything about any of this stuff..

i never fight tickets because i know, for every one i got that i think i didnt deserve there are a thousand i did deserve and did NOT get

Ah yes the days of photo radar here in BC. The Liberals campaigned on eliminating photo radar if they got elected in 2001 and they kept that promise. I remember the Chevy Astro vans parked along the highways and side streets.

I'm a little surprised no one asked more questions about your picture.... they clearly sent the ticket to the right person (so the address was right). A quick check would have confirmed that you had both Coronet and a wagon registered/insured to you.

Oh, try their ale, it's more robust than their lager.

i keep my 3 cars legal year round ..i can tell you here in south fla i have a ticket attorney who has beat every ticket i have handed over for 79 dollars each one... only one i paid 100 court cost.... and i did not need to show up on any of them,,,,, there is very little enforcement i might add you need to drive like a complete a hole to get popped here ido not get to crazy these days...i do love to smoke a good import once in a while

OP is the reason I pay extra to keep top rate insurance with a $100 deductible. Uninsured drivers....meh.

So you attached plates from one car on to another..they would have towed your car and fined you in this state..

As for having tickets taken care of..well lets just say having family in law enforcement has its benefits:D:D

The one and only ticket I was ever able to fight and beat, I proved that the cop who wrote me a ticket created the hazard he cited me for.
I truly didn't think I had a snowballs chance in hell, but the magistrate agreed with me.

That's sounds like a story worth telling

yes sir, they sure do

i think between me and the missus, we're down to one ticket thats still on our record
(depending on what the ticket was for, they stay on longer)

they call it SDIP out here - Safe Driver Insurance Plan - it took me a long time to get mine back to normal..

A pulled me over for not going into the left lane while he was pulled over.
He was on the phone, no lights, nothing.
I was forced into the right lane and wasn't able to get over because of the cop.
I was able to get his activity log and learned that he wasn't on an official call.
The magistrate ruled the cop created the hazard that he cited me for. In short if he hadn't pulled over to make/take a personal call, the hazard wouldn't have existed.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. I think that if you get caught driving without insurance, they should be able to impound the car and sell it.

this one time, i was driving my car naked (fetish) and got pulled over for speeding
the cop let me off though
that's a story for another day
