Any opinions on Mr Gasket head gaskets?

Looking at these Mr Gasket head gaskets for my 388 dirt track deal. Cheaper than Fel-Pros which were on this engine when I bought it. It's a 13.5-1 methanol fueled small block btw.

The heads and block are o-ringed but I doubt I'll use the rings.

The pic of the gaskets isn't detailed enough to get a good idea of how they're made. You're pushing over 13:1 you say? Not a time to be worried about cost with that squeeze. I'd run Fel-pros or Cometic MLS. Yes, they are not cheap, but what will a blown gasket cost? The heads AND block are machined for O-ring receiver grooves? Usually it's one or the other, not both. Sometimes the grooves can interfere with a standard gasket.
 
I Don't run mr. Garbage on anything.

Use cometic mls if you don't love doing head gaskets

You can drill the rivets and add or subtract layers to tune your cr, or so I hear.

The only Mr. Gasket gaskets I like in the critical areas are the Ultra Seal gaskets. Header & head gaskets have proven excellent for me when needed. Regular gaskets by Mr. G in less critical areas have proven fine. Thermostat, carb, etc...

YOUR 13.5-1 ratio is a bit beyond my experience. As well as the fuel being used.
 
I use and reuse the felpro 1008 on all my performance engines. set i have on my 10-1 360 have been reused at least 3 times still sealing like new. If you can find the moperformance version they sold a few years ago they came as a set for less $.
 
Yea, there a decent head gasket but he is at 13.5-1 on meth. Different ball game.
 
I've used the 1121G. It is not a 13.5:1 head gasket.

P. S. They are a pain in the butt to clean off after use also. They shred coming off and they make a pattern of little divots in an aluminum head. The divots don't hurt anything but they are an aggravation.

Why not stay with FelPro's as that's what was on this engine?
And do not say cost is the factor.....
 
That info is a little more revealing... I've run a lot of steel shim stuff back before the MLS lines were invented. That's what had me interested.

I believe this deal had 1008 Fel-Pros... gotta take a second look... I have the old ones hanging around somewhere. I'd run copper if I had more $$$. I'll likely run some of those Superformance gaskets on the intake, pan, headers and valve covers.

I do have a small budget to be honest but I haven't done any cheap stuff on this engine and likely won't. I've been rebuilding this car with 100% used and cast off parts, traded and hunted for items at swap meets, eBay and the used marketplace. Bought the engine blown up and repairing what's broke. I'm almost to the point of having what I need to reassemble the whole dang project. Shocks are bought and rebuilt/revalved. Still short a Bert transmission and I need to rebuild the brake and clutch masters plus the brake calipers. And get the chassis over to the local frame shop to make sure it's straight. Got some mounts to make for the fuel cell and misc. things and bend up and hang a new body.

I sold some shop equipment this week and that paid for a used 22 gallon fuel cell and helped fund a couple used wheels.

To effectively use orings to seal the combustion chambers you MUST groove the head and the block. If it's cast iron/cast iron you can put the orings in the block if you want. Unless the wire is very close to the edge of the chamber. Then you put the wire in the head.

On aluminum heads the wire always goes in the head.
