I've got a A904 (ID: PK4412001 8905) from a 86 Chrysler 5th Ave.

I want to use in for my 1970 Duster with the original 318.

Is this a good version of the A904 or is there a better one to find?

Also, is this a A998? I'm not too sure since the manual I have says its a A904.

What do I need to know when converting this from a 3 speed manual to the A904?

Thanks.

That is a very good cruiser tranny. It likely has the wide ratios and a lock-up TC. Install everything from the donor car.But find a column thats more at home in the Duster, unless tou are planning a floor shift. Those parts will need to come from a different doner, probably a 67 to 72 A-body. Dont forget the NSS/rev lite harness. The governor may not work the best in your Duster, but for a cruiser, may be fine.Swap the speedO gears if the rear ratios are different.good luck.

Thanks AJ,

I've got a column shift from a A Body that I'm going to use. I don't understand your comment on the governor. The transmission has a governor?

Also, what's the purpose of the lock-up?

Give him a few minutes, so he can type a book on it. :D
Seriously though, AJ is pretty thorough on his explanations, so it'll be worth the wait.
