I am going to change out my exhaust header gaskets, but I am looking for tips to make the swap easier. I swapped one for a Mr. Gasket gasket 3 years ago, but the presence of fluid by one of bolts that go into the water jacket have led me to believe it is bad again. I did have exhaust leaks on both sides, but never got around to doing it. I have old poor fitting headers. They are either Hooker or Headman from what I remember. I will be replacing the old bolts with ARP 144-1102 or 144-1110. My reading suggests that some people believe the flange is too thick for a 3/4 inch bolt and proper engagement requires a 1 inch bolt. I would like to put in studs to replace bolts that go into the water jacket. That should make any future gasket replacement easier.
What are the proper studs or recommended studs for header installation?
Are there any other recommended gaskets beside Mr. Gasket and the Patriot Seal 4 Good gaskets from summit racing? I want a good seal just in case there is some slight warp I can't see with the naked eye.
Any tips or tricks to make this a less messy experience than I had last time?
