any way to know if my 318 has 340 or 360 heads?

I dont know if my 69 318 has stock, 340 or 360 heads on it and I cant talk to the guy who did a bunch of work to my car because he isnt around anymore. Is there a way for me to find out?

The only way to know is to look at the casting number. It should be on the #1 intake runner but you need to pull the valve cover to do that.

Interesting side note on the pic I posted.

They are "X" heads without the "X". These are original to my car, mid 67 casting date if I remember correctly. The car is an early build 68.

Thats cool. Never x heads w/o the x by the spark plugs. 894s deff. Xs.

If you have a X,O,or U cast next to spark plug hole they would be 340 heads. J or Z could be 340 or 360. If no Letters cast by plugs pull a cover and check #s.

All 915s cast O U and J all say 360 on the head but did come factory on 70-71 340s w 2.02 valves. Not all Js are 2.02s though. All the Js ive actualy pulled off of 360s have all been 1.88s

if your casting numbers are 2843675 its 273 V8. i just discovered thats what mine are.

Actually yours are probably 318's as they shared the casting# with the 273 I believe.

I have witness the same thing when it comes to J heads on 360's all the ones I have ever seen have been 1.88 too. Disappointing too, you see they are J heads only to take them off and they stock size. LOL
