I have two gas tanks & the nicer tank has lost it's padding, any way to remove the padding on the other tank being able to save it to use on the better tank?
Thanks for the suggestions!

My guess is it will fall apart. When I had my tank out mine fell apart, I took the pieces and laid it out on on a heavy piece of roofing felt (tar paper) and cut me a new piece.

Just a thought if you can't salvage it.

^^^ Yup! Save what you can to make a pattern, then beg, borrow or steal a chunk of 30# tarpaper and cut a new one!

I used a large sheet of that cork gasket material and it worked fine. Ten years later during the restoration I still could have re-used it (if I had wanted to).

I purchased a small roll of masticated rubber approximately 1/8" thick. I use it for gas tank pads, you name it. I use it all the time for stuff. Great to have on hand for stuff like this. It is rubber with what looks like recycled rubber embedded in it.

Mother natures sunshine & a putty knife, it went on the other tank beautifully!

Thank You for all the suggestions!!
