Fishbreath the records I found of my great grandfather list him as coming from Macedonia Greece. His wife, and my other great grand parents were from Czechoslovakia. One of the rumors about our last name was that he live in a Slovak section of the city so the name was changed to fit it. Another rumor is the spelling was just chance. 2 other spellings I have found were Hrushka and Ruszka.

From my research of Macedonia, Ive learned Macedonians were a Greek minority population in a number of areas inside the multiethnic region of Macedonia, more so away from the coast. They lived alongside Slavic-speaking populations, most of whom had come to be identified as Bulgarians, and other ethnicities such as Jews, Turks, Vlachs and Albanians. However, the ethnic Greeks were the predominant population in the southern zone of the region which comprised the best part of modern Greek Macedonia.

So just because Macedonia is part of Greece doesnt mean he was Greek. Which is true any were I suppose.
