Good Luck finding that Model even... all of them are AMT Brand and they're all 1966.
MPC made some 65s too. There are a few on ebay.
The article says that no rear-brake (rear-steering) cars existed until '67 So,
probably all early cars are scrap now.

The 65 was lost decades ago, I worked with Bob during his last few years of driving it, and worked directly for the guy who owned the cars at that time. The only original car left is the 67 which he got back after an autograph session at Chyrslers at Carlisle, it in itself is a cool story. He built every single one of the HUG's and the 68 blower car was the most famous that is still being run today by Mike Mantel. I found him the 69 body that he built and rolled with Jay Leno in it. Getting back to the 65 car, Bill Shrewsbury was the first driver then it went to Bob Riggle and was wrecked a couple years later. The 66 is still around with the injected Hemi but was not one of the original cars, Bob built it later.

Yes, I did some searches last night and figured out or read that the 65 was striped for parts.
The parts were used on later versions.

The only 65 Versions I know about are the Aurora 1/32 scale models.
The MPC kit with the 65 Barracuda on the box is an error kit with a 66 car inside.
I have an original AMT HUG that was a Holy Grail kit for me.
Of course that was reissued recently with a special 1 in 12 gold molded body.
The molded gold is NOT the correct color, but they tried.

No. I got him another body and he decided the rolled car was good enough to fix, so he ended up cutting off the entire side of the rolled car and grafted on another. The side that rolled with Jay is now on a board attached to his shop wall! My buddy Joe owns the car and brings it out occasionally. Here is a pic of me sitting in it the last time it was run at Bowling Green...

They made the 65 into the 66, never knew that.
Those barracudas can look so right with those big/little tires, Cragars, and that paint!

The cool thing with the 67 was that a guy at Chryslers at Carlisle from Canada came up to Bob while he was autographing and said he had the car. Bob said no, the car was gone and nobody had seen it since. The guy said he would be back the next day with pics, and sure enough he did and Bob recognized some things about the car he knew he had done and only he would know. Bob got the guy's info and said he would be in touch, but when he got back home to Chino Valley, AZ he could not find it! A month went by and Bob figured that was that, but then he got a call from the guy upset that he didn't want the car, but Bob said he did and give him the address and he would come up. Then he realized the car had no VIN and how was he going to get it back across the border! He gathered up all his photos and documents from when he built and raced it and went up to Canada. When he got the car and went to the border they let him take it across because it was obvious. When he got home he got out his rolodex and found all the people who helped with the car! The fiberglass one piece front end was destroyed, but he called the guy who had made the original one and had another one made. The guy who lettered it still around and he lettered it again! It was an amazing thing!
Yeah, I don't think that's really the case tho... You can't put '66 Taillights in a '65 either.

Some of the story is correct, but some isn't. I had long talks with Bob over the years...
I saw one at a Car-Show once...
It had a Backwards rear-end and an In-Out box with two driveshafts going to the rear Valance.
Were they all that way?
