I just ordered a AAR fiberglass bolt on hood and was wondering if it is strong enough for the stock hood springs anyone ?

What car is this going on? If it's a glass replacement hood for an original steel hood then you'll want the lighter springs.

Contact Herb Beer (herbbeer at yahoo.com) who can modify the original springs to work with a glass hood. He is officially endorsed by AAR.

I was wondering this too, but my Duster doesn't seem to have springs. I use a broom as a prop rod. What kind of quality is AAR i've heard good and bad.

I called herb beer today i need to get the push nuts off any tricks to getting them off is there a specialty tool or something Ive had real good luck with AAR good quality

Remove the splash shields (screw heads may be covered with undercoat if they've never been removed) and reach in with a pair of side cutters.

Hopefully, your hinges will slide off the pins without problems. Mine would not have come off or gone back on had the fenders not been off - there was some interference.

Once the hinges are off you can put 'em in a vice and pop the end of the spring off the pin. Use a cut-off wheel to remove the staking that keeps the center of the spring from sliding off.

I used channel lock pliers to hook the end of the "new" spring back on. Tiny weld blobs on the center pin (where it was staked) will keep the spring from sliding off. Herb supplies new push nuts.

I think they say right on their website I get lighter springs for the hoods... and even if they don't, I would do it anyway.

My springs were heated to take the spring out of them..as far as quality AAR is number one in my book..

They are pretty much a one time use deal.
I just cut them off then get new ones at the hardware store.

Go to your local salvage yard and get the springs from a
late model Daytona or charger. They should work.
Heard of guys using them before.

Hey don't you steal those, i may need them if I need new ones on the rampage, haha.

I forgot about the heating trick though... that should work I would think?

They work great....cheap too!

Here are some from a Daytona on my 'Cuda

You may have to cut a couple of coils from the radiator support spring.
It kept wanting to push the light weight hood up in front.
