Wouldnt 68 be red? I mean, that appears to be original paint on them. The difference in 340 valve cover is usually only the spark plug retainer tabs. I never remember off the top of my head but typically one side has taller wire retainers to help clear the manifold.
I have a book somewhere that shows the differences year to year. Have no idea where that book resides at the moment.

Hey, I have some known 68 covers out in the garage. I will get some pics for comparison.

So after looking at these im kind doubting they are correct 68 340 covers. They came with a 68 340 I bought many years ago. The wire retainers kinda remind me of the ones on a 273.

Check out these on ebay.

I think those are 69, I have a few sets.

but the right side should have a long cover for the harness like
MoparMike1974 has on his.

I think the left is a 69 340 and the right is 318

Ok cool. I knew they came off a unmolested std bore 68 but figured they could have been swapped. Good to hear they are correct.

Thanks for showing these! I have heard a couple different stories on these 340 covers.I see your covers have the bracket on the inside of the passenger cover that protects the wire loom from the heat of the intake, Because the 340 intakes were higher then the 273 318. Was told that the 68 69 70 340 covers all had this bracket. So these I have are not 340.Interested in selling them? PM me Thanks.

Also whats confusing is your covers don't have the extended spark plug wire bracket on the rear drive side to keep wires off the HP exhaust manifold?

I cant say for sure. All I know if they came with an unmolested 68 that I bought 15 some years ago and it had been in a guys basement for many years before that. Standard bore block, std crank, no wear. The rest of the engine was just as greasy as the valve covers.
I wish I knew where the book was that I had. It showed pictures of various years and explained the differences.

This bracket was used on the 68 340’s and bolted to the rear of the driver side valve cover to hold the spark plug wires.
