This was done 15 years ago, but I heard it for the first time today...

I get chill bumps every time I hear that song. I saw him perform it live a few years ago, and a lot of people at the concert had tears on their cheeks....including me.

from what i understand they quit playing it on the radio, out of respect for those who are burried there

last year we had sgt Davis speak at our Church and he was telling a story about being in vietnam, and his lieutenant coming by shooting the breeze
sgt Davis had a harmonica and his lt would ask him to play "Shenandoah"
i guess the lt would come by and ask that often, until one day he took some enemy fire and died as a result of it

he mentioned that years later, he was in DC the morning of the dedication of the Vietnam wall
he walked down the wall, until he found his lts name, pulled out his harmonica and played through Shenandoah 3 or 4 times
he said when he put down his harmonica and turned around there were a few dozen vets there, all because they had known some of the names on the wall, and all realized what had just transpired

then he pulled out his harmonica, and played shenandoah on it
