At what age did you start smoking....

cigs.....I took a couple from my mom's purse when I was 10 and dad found out. Dad, if it's so bad, why are you smoking!?

Edit: Never did pick up the habit but did smoke cigars for a bit and even that didn't last very long.

The headliner of the car was yellow with "drips." Driving anywhere in the winter, I couldn't breathe because the car was full of smoke.

Put me right off it, never even wanted to try.

Same thing here but dad never used a respirator. I have some nasty allergies and walking into a house that 'had' smokers in it will mess me up and quick.

I first tried it around age 10 or 11, both my parents smoked, mom cigarettes and dad was into big stinky cigars. We traveled across the country in summer 1973 in a regular cab Dodge D100 with a camper on the back, both of them puffing away and me choking in the middle. I eventually convinced them to let me ride in the camper where I could at least breathe. Gotta love that second hand smoke!
I started to smoke regularly at 15, everyone in my family smoked, so how bad could it be? So what if I am asthmatic? I have an inhaler! I finally got smart enough to quit at age 33, almost 29 years ago.

But I did try to smoke a cigarette a couple times when I was about 10-12 years old, but never made it through even one.

Started smoking out of high-school. 20 ish.
Around a pack/pack 1/2 a day, except on race days, then three or four.
Quit, cold turkey, on my 50th birthday, so I'd remember succeeding. (I was NOT gonna fail again, and have to remember).

As a "heavy smoker", I was a piker, compared to a few guys i worked with. We had at least three guys, two in the office, that were 3+ packs/day. Eventually, all of us quit.
I think a carton was $12-20 when I quit. My gf and her sister still smoke, and buy the cheapest smokes they can tolerate. $50/carton. I think "name brand" smokes in california and new York is around $100. (I may be wrong about that. Haven't bought smokes in california in 20 years)
Edit: missed a bit. Did some research out of curiosity. New York is highest at $12/pack, but several more at $11 plus. Average is supposed to be $7+. Lowest state prices list were $6+.
I guess my gf is getting a huge bargain at $50/carton. Indian res prices.

Dad smoked a pipe(Borkum Riff tobacco) when I was a kid. Years later that evolved later into cigars, quality big ones.
My 1st one i snuck from a family member (or 2 lol). They used to make their own with the hand crank machine, box of tube filters and tin of tobacco same as one in pic.
I was probably around 9-10 when I 1st did it. Got caught several times. Full time I was 16 or so. Have since quit (so has Lori)but unfortunately one of my habits necessitates occasional tobacco use lol.

I smoked a few stolen cigarettes at age 12, after 13 mom let me, I worked every day, no home till late 16 when I rented my first apartment.
Hell!! Everyone in the fields did so what the hell, quit at age 18, started back at age 20, quit for 8 months at age 35, quit again at near 54, this site along with others .. I smoke possibly a half pack a day now, some days get away with just 5 if I am lucky.. life happens to everyone, no judgment here if you do or don't, but we all should quit this nasty habit tv and old timers put on us.

Today, my friends at work's habit, at $11/pack, 3 packs/day, is over $12,000/year, JUST for cigarettes. I quit when my smokes (the cheap GPC replacement for Marlboro red) went from $8 to $12/carton. Somewhere around $20/week saved every week, (at the time!) when I quit.

About 7/8, in the late 60's. My friends father was was a cigarette salesman and he had a garage full of cigarettes. They used to give out promotional packs with 2 cigs in them. A whole pack was about $.35 and l got hooked on them. Its fuzzy but I smoked up to 2 packs of Winston's a day into the late 90's when I would stop and start off and on until I finally quit for good when I was in my early 40s. Crazy as it seems, he still smokes.

You sound very much like what my mom went through. Parents smoked camels, mom not so much til Dad was in the hospital his last month of life then it was like she had to smoke her normal amount plus Dad's share too. Dad was what I call a 2 fisted smoker. He'd light one before the one he started with was gone.
When I was in HS we wore the same size. He was so bad he'd stuff my flannels with cigs and when I asked him WTF, he said he didn't want to go without if he mistakenly grabbed mine instead of his own as he was gone for work before we even got up.
When he died I went thru the house and had a couple packs here, a couple of cartons there, and had 18 CARTONS of camels stacked up on his dresser. He had them in the garage, workbench drawers, tool box, glove box of both vehicles, under the seats in the cars, in the China cabinet by his spot at the kitchen table, in the coffee table in the living room,his clothes, my clothes, everywhere. I have most of them away to get rid of them
I took one single drag off of a cig when.i was 13, gagged choked and said "no thanks'.

My dad started smoking while in the military in ww2. I think he said smokes were a nickel a pack for servicemen.
Tried to quit in his fifties, never really succeeded.
