My dart is a big block with 727 automatic. It does not have a floor console, shifts on the column. I am wanting a shifter for the floor that maybe uses a cable so i dont have to cut the floor up..is there such a thing? If so, is there such a thing that has a nice base being there is no center console?

Research several name brands. Most all are cable. One hole for the cable and a few mount holes that's it. Many have different styles of covers so find one that you like.
B&M Ratchet is nice. The latest I have used is from TCI. Costs vary.

I've used the B&M Quicksilver in a couple of my Dusters with bench seat and have been very happy with it. I started with the B&M Starshifter back in the early 80's into my 69 Charger and then moved onto different B&M models. I've used some of the cheaper shifters out there but was not satisfied with the "feel". The B&M ones I've used are just fine for street driving. Next to mounting the shifter on the trans hump, the biggest issue you'll need to address is heat around where you route the shifter cable. You MUST ensure it is not near heat sources or the cable won't last long. The other thing is the cables like nice, smooth bends, no sharp bends. Take your time in setting it up and you'll be very happy with it. Also, be sure the engine is well grounded to the body of the car. I knew someone once (not me) that had poor engine grounds. When trying to start the vehicle the starter dragged down like the battery was low. After starting the shifter would not move. Disassembly showed power had gone through the shifter cable and welded it! Just a heads up!

I mounted mine on a pedestal (home made) for a shorter reach. 1 hole for the cable , 4 self tapping screws.
Just a thought.

I have the B&M Megashifter in my 340 Dart with a Chevy 200-4R trans. Installation was pretty straightforward and I love how it operates.

and whats the better type for a BB A-body with fenderwell headers, a shifter with the cable that goes out through the front or rear?
