Did Chrysler make different Crankshafts for Manual cars compared to those used with an Automatic trans? Specifically 340 and 383 engines. Any help would be appreciated.

IIRC all 383 sticks had forged cranks, as did all 340 manual trannys. I have never seen a cast crank stick 340 even after '71.

I had a 72 340 cast crank that was hooked to a 4spd. all 340's prior to mid 71 were steal cranks.

Thanks, Can you use a Forged crank with an automatic trans?

Yes.

The only difference is a lot of engines that came with an auto didn't have the crank drilled for the pilot brg so you will need to have a machine shop bore the crank out.
