There is a special tool for their Anti theift screws. You can loosen the screws a turn or 2 from inside the trunk, spray a little WD-40 on them maybe then grab that wierd screw head with needle nose or even hemostat ( surgeons needle nose )
 
After running into the same problem myself (and asking the same question), I backed them over halfway out from behind with vise grips then the rest of the way by hand.

Dremel was going to be Plan B, but it didn't have to come to that. Even though they looked really rusty on the outside, the threads were clean and they came right out.
 
I just ran into that problem. So if it will help anyone this is what I did. Just took a 1/4 cheapo socket and marked it on the sides where the grooves in the screw were and used a cut off saw to remove the metal till it fit.

Ain't pretty but it works!
