Hello there,
I'm working on a 65 Barracuda, and I think the little flat metal that goes from the lock to latch fell out, as the key turns 180 degrees without catching anything.

What is the easiest way to get into the trunk? Will I have to take a hole saw to the divider to get in and manually pop the trunk? If so, how hard is it to find replacement wood panels?

Would it be easier to drill out the lock?

I appreciate all help in advance!
Thanks,
Brett

Did you try taking a thin screw driver or flat piece of metal to see if you can push down the locks from inside? The wood is just plywood. I would try that first

No luck on that end, from what i remember the latch comes down behind; no way to get at it from the outside.

Pull the back seat and there are openings to the trunk.

You may be able to reach it once you lower the seat down. If not then your going to have to cut the wood since replacing the wood is easier than doing body work to the trunk area

Not in a 65 Barracuda... the trunk divider is held up by 2 pull latches only assessable from in the trunk...

Slit the carpet, drill a 3/4" hole and use a long rod and a flashlight to reach the trunk latch?? After success, make a plug for the hole and glue the carpet back in place.

Is the spare in the trunk? There are some rubber plugs in the bottom that you might be able to remove and get to the latch with a wire or rod if items such as a tire aren't on top of them......if the spare is in there but not fastened down you might be able to lift it up through the drain with the plug removed enough to get to the latch....

Ah, ok.
Learned something new today, thank you. :-)

Are the latches of a type that if he had measurements he could drill the wood and pop the latches with a screwdriver or something?

If that didn't seem like a pain to do, I'd go that route and leave the holes in place for future usage. I think I'm going to try drilling a small hole and peeking in with a flashlight tomorrow to get a better idea on what's going on.

I appreciate the responses and will update tomorrow.

The above idea or possible access from a bottom drain plug. Here's an image of the little culprits.
