This spring I planned on rebuilding the front end on my 73 Duster (Manual Steering). I ordered a PST Kit, Addco sway bar, & Just Suspension torsion bars. The original manual steering box was shot, so I just planned to get it rebuilt locally for $190. I also needed a new pitman arm, but I noticed different part numbers for them. So I posted this...

To to save a few bucks I bought what was supposed to be a "73 & up A-body manual box with a large sector". From my expensive & time consuming education lately, there is no such thing...all A-Body manual boxes are small sector.
What I really bought for my 73 Duster w/manual steering...was a B-Body manual box. The "B" steering box is large sector, meaning that you must use a 73 & up power steering Pitman arm. So I bought another new pitman arm. Problem solved, right?
Wrong...all was good until I started to put my car back together.
The "B " box bolts up with the new 73 & up Power Steering Pitman arm & all of that, thought I was all set. Then as & reinstall my engine with new headers...the "B" box gets in the way, by about 3/4" on the top & 1/4" on the bottom.
What a big waste of time & money...all along I had a nice manual steering box on a 70 Duster that I could have used!
The power steering cars are the only cars that had a large sector size change in 73. The change on manual steering cars in 73 was the pitman arm, center link, idler arm. NOT THE BOX!
There's a bunch of great information on this site. But I've learned that I need to be careful when receiving or giving advice, because I'd hate to "Steer" someone the wrong way!
