Just like the title says, who makes the best cam degree kit? I have never used one before and am looking to make sure I get a good one.

Thanks!!

You don't really need a "kit." All you need is a degree wheel, (get a big one) or MAKE one--you can print them out here and there off the www, and you need a dial indicator. You don't need a Starrett, either. There are several places you can get an indicator that's adequate. Get one with a universal arm and probably a magnetic base, you can use it for other things.

The following step by step from Lunati illustrates all you need:

I've bought a lot of stuff from KBC tools:

If I did this right, this link should open a pdf to a KBC indicator for 40 bucks which is more than adequate:

Make sure you get one with enough stroke, IE 0-1" so you can measure actual valve lift if you need to

I like piecin mine together. I got a dial indicator from Snap On and a degree wheel from Mopar Performance. I like their degree wheel best because you don't have to divide by two in the end. It reads directly.

You could always make your own out of something like this printed out and put it on some tin, cardboard etc.

I upgraded to the comp cams kit and really like the crank socket that also holds the degree wheel for degreeing a cam with the heads off. The fixture to hold the dial indicator is cool too.

Nice kit part #4934

Thanks!
I was looking at the comp cams kit for mopars, with the heads off. As my engine is apart now. Figure I can add the parts to be able to use it with the heads on down the road. Now if I can just find a good deal on one. LOL

Its got to have a crank socket! lol

I bought the entire kit at Summit Racing... it was like $80 something.

Yea,
It is $155 now! But then a dollar is worth about half what it was a few years ago to.

I just decided on the kit as it has everything, even a video for idiots like me that have never done it before. LOL
