Best "easy" port mods Edelbrock heads

-
He's explaining why when people open the pinch up, or just do a port match WITHOUT doing any other port work is not recommended...because you can slow the air down too much. That is not ruining the head! You just need to keep improving the rest of the port ;-)

OH Bewy !!!! You've done it again!!!!

Yes, you are correct, I have done it again:
[1] I have tried to warn the OP that just opening the prod pinch because it looks like it could be a restriction...can be counter productive. If Weingartner's example he picked up a whopping 3-5 CFM of flow....& lost a heap of velocity.
[2] Shows what a dope you are because you don't get it.

Here's a link to an online Doc Library.

Download PDF - David Vizard's How To Port & Flow Test Cylinder Heads [EPUB] [5ugi2olhv820]

Click on the "hCaptcha" go through the picture verification.
Then click on the "Download Original PDF" link. Be sure you use this link, not the one above it.
The download will be in "epub" format, so you may need to get an epub viewer if your computer does not have one.
SumatraPDF is a good small one.
I've checked and verified that this all works.

I'm confused. So now we don't hate Edelbrock heads and say that they require all new valve guides, valves, seats, rockers, ports, waterjackets, and castings right out of the box?

Apart from all that, we don't hate them..LOL!!

IDK who hates the heads. My last set purchased about 2 months ago checked out just fine. The springs worked with the cam I used. Though this is something to take note of vs your cam for use.

Don't know how true it is, but I have read that Edel products have gone to the dogs since Vic passed away. Machinery/tooling old & worn out, not replaced or upgraded.
It is now just another company in the portfolio of a large conglomerate. When Vic was there, every box that went out the door had his name on it, an incentive to make a good product.

Not true. Sometimes garbage went out the door when he was alive. My recent set of heads were not.

Comp Cams now owns Edelbrock, or the other way around? There now teamed up. I found that IOP, which owns Edelbrock purchased Competition Cams. Wikipedia states. “In January 2020, Competition Cams was acquired by private equity group Industrial Opportunity Partners.” & “Industrial Opportunity Partners (IOP), a private equity firm based in Evanston, Illinois, which owns Edelbrock, has purchased the COMP Performance Group.Feb 4, 2020” owns comp cams but there at least operating as if without some overlord pencil neck geek pushing to cut the job only to serve his lords taste for money without care or concern to the workers. We have all seen that Unfortunately.

From IOP's website.
Read into it what you want.

Create fundamental improvement in operating performance:

  • Continue emphasis on quality, research and new product development
  • Optimize production efficiency, operational footprint and product portfolio
  • Execute continuous improvement projects and cost-savings initiatives
  • Capitalize on opportunities and synergies between Edelbrock and COMP Cams

Hey guys. I'm still working on my 418 stroker setup.

I have bone stock eddies with back cut valves and I know they really aren't enough head flow for a hot stroker. But at this time unfortunately I can't justify spending more on the engine for different heads porting etc.

I was wondering what low cost head mods and easy porting suggestions could be made? Im handy with a die grinder but I don't want to get super involved with extensive mods because I'm definitely not a pro. Just looking to get the best I can out of a flow limited situation.

Thanks!
Define "easy". You mean like the titties in your avatar? Ain't gonna happen with cylinder heads.

"Gone to the dogs" I think is a bit harsh. "CHANGED" however is not.

I can only hope that the mission statement Bakerlite posted up is an honest one and a true one that is actually followed. So far, the companies they have acquired that still operate have made new products and do continue to do work in the field. While I can’t say that about Crane Cams, they do say that they have all of there profiles saved. So, IF you want a specific Crane Cam, you have to call and ask for it.

The “Comp Cams Group” has a number of companies under there banner. Go to the Comp web site and scroll to the bottom of the page where there listed.

achieved without great effort; presenting few difficulties.

Sorry I couldn't resist...

Anyhow, easy being, best bang for the buck without extensive porting that I couldn't easily do myself. I was thinking, specifically, about things like valve jobs with actual angle specs that are known to work well, and then if there are a couple of known straightforward areas I can address with my handy die grinder and an aluminum burr and some flap wheels. For the most part I think I have an idea based on what I've seen here, but valve angles and specific areas I can look at in the chamber would also be nice to know.
