I know, 4 barrel is where its at...

Lets assume for some reason, someone wanted to stick with a 2 barrel on a 318 build, using an OE cast iron manifold. Is there a specific manifold that would be better than others? I've read tidbits about 360 2V intakes being dual plane and having larger ports, but no mention of a specific "best" manifold. Did any specific years flow better and/or have less smog stuff on them?

Any input?

I would run the intake with the ports that match whatever heads you plan to run. That said, one of the early 70s (pre EGR) intakes would be best, IMO.

Thanks for the feedback Rusty.
You're certainly welcome. But now that I think about it, I'm not sure there were any dual plane two barrel non EGR intakes. I've never seen one, but that means nothing. lol I would still run whichever one matched the ports in the heads you run.

The '89 to '91 318 TBI Mid Rise cast iron intake is far superior to all other 2 bbl intake manifolds. Dual Plane besides.

Although you will have to drill and tap for the 2 barrel carb pattern that you wish to install, as the TBI pattern was offset for the Throttle Body Injection unit of those years.

Its actually on a 318 so the intake ports of the heads would need to be opened up to match the 360 intake.

What about 318 manifolds...any "better" ones? I should just leave the thing alone...Lol.

Here is a '69 Non-EGR 2 bbl Dual Plane intake.

We adapted this 2 bbl intake up to a 4 bbl with the Mr.Gasket 2 to 4 bbl adapter.

Worked just great, gave the stock 318 the fuel that it needed. Woke it up nicely.

I am unsure there's enough room on the heads to do that.

Ok cool so they did make some. I wasn't sure. Thank you kind sir!

There is a 2 barrel single plane 318 intake, I do not recall what year. Problem is the plenum is small. The tbi intake above looks to be the best, but you never know till one is flowed on a bench. Keep in mind, that dual plane intakes are hard to port no matter what the material is, but it can be done. It’s hard to reach far into the ports. Guys have hole sawn into specific areas from the top and the bottom to reach inassesable areas to port and sealed them with pipe plugs, core plugs or just welded them shut.

Charles servedio has ported and flowed 2 318 two barrel stock intakes on his YouTube channel.

Do you have a specific part number or casting number I should be looking for?

It's the intake manifold that comes stock on the '89-'91 D100- D150 roller cam TBI engines.

And if you just want to adapt up to a 4 barrel with your stock 2 barrel intake these work fine too.

They work well with the stock camshafts and then you don't have to get into pulling the manifold.

Edelbrock 1406 4 bbl is the ideal carb for the stock 318s. Just bolt on and go, electric choke and all.

No redrilling of the stock 2 bbl intake bolt pattern required to bolt up the 2 to 4 adapter.

larger runners and will accept a
‘70-‘71 big block 2 barrel carter with no modifications. Casting # 3614345

What I forgot to mention is this is a factory 360 intake.:BangHead:

Totally agree, but I'll add 2 things:
-There's no choke well on these manifolds, so you're going to need to run a manual choke cable. I don't think anybody ever made an electric conversion for any of the factory 2bbls.
-As long as you're redrilling for a 2bbl, I would drill for one of the larger pattern 2bbls. from a 360/383/400- at various times they used Carter BBD, Holley 2210, and Stromberg WWC carbs. I like the Carters. You can also make a plate or buy adapters to go to the Holley 350/500 cfm 2bbl., there are a lot more tuning parts available for those, since they are basically the front half of a Holley 4bbl.

This looks very similar to whats on the truck now. I'll have to look closely when Im at the shop next. Its casting number is 2468960. It runs absolutely flawless with that intake and carb. Its a 1 ton shop truck that idles so smooth you cant hear it or feel it...and with a 4 speed and 4.88's, I really dont need to be "hopping it up".
Not sure what you're interest is in swapping to something different. Sounds like you have a good running truck as is. If you want a little more performance/pulling power, just clean up the exhaust flow and with the 4.88's maybe little more camshaft in the 210/[email protected] range to add some mid range torque.

I completely agree Rick. It's a shop truck that we use for deliveries at our manufacturing business. One of those "should leave well enough alone". I'll likely do that and leave the "tinkering" for the hot rod projects.
