Looking for input on what tire to use. Currently running 26 9.50 14 with 3.91`s. Going to a 15 x 8 wheel. I have had a 27 10.5 15 on before with a 15 x 8 wheel with 3.75 back space. Very tight fit. SS springs in stock location. Inner fender lip is rolled. 318 with 904 running 13.5 with current setup. Any suggestions?

I am using 275-60-15 on mine. Drag radials. Have 15x8 wheel Vintiques rallys with stock springs.

I had 235/60r15 bfg drag radials on mine when I had the 318 and even with 4.30 gears it needed more. With the 26 in tall tire it went through the traps at 6200 & 100 mph. With the 318, I needed at least 4.86's with the 26 inch tall tire, 5.13 would have been better.

You nailed it on my trap speed and my rpm is about 5800

well i know im running a /6 but i went thru the same thing...

i had 245/60-14's on the back and wasn't even getting into third with the 2.76's...

so i went to a 3.91 (in an 8.75) and upped to a 235/70-15 (28" tall) and was trapping at 5K and running 65mph @ 3000rpm on the road...

so i upped to a 28x9" hoosier slick (will not fit in stock well even with lip rolled) so i did the SS cuts outs...

but anyways now running a 4.86 gear and trapping at 5600 (last time out it was missing really bad so i was short shifting and part throttle so it will be hire under full pedal) goes 50mph @ 3K now on the road LOL...

I would like to do the SS cut out`s. Does anyone make a template?

:burnout:I just bought the template off of eBay. Tire size will no longer be a problem...LOL

ok so here is the deal when doing this...

set the front edge of the template where the front of the wheel well is, NOT THE LIP... or you just lost about 3/4" tire clearance lol...

after that when cutting out the outer sheet metal dont cut thru the inner wheel well on the top part (do as in the pics) you have to fold that up and over to the new lip you make...

I'd only caution that you need to gear for the rpm you want but not by using the trap rpm you're curently getting. If that makes sense...lol
There is always a certain amount of slippage in a convertor. You dont want a lot but there will be some. So if you mathematically need say, 4.30s to trap in 3rd at 5800, you may find that with 4.30s you're trapping at 6100 because the convertor's slipping too much. If you go down in gear with the thought of reducing the trap rpm you'll be hobbling the package for the sake of a slipping convertor. And slippage does change with gear changes... Generally the lower numerically the gear, and the larger the diameter of the convertor, the more slippage you'll have in 3rd.
