hello everyone I am new to the site and am currently working on my early 383 which is giving me big fits, my qustion is all big block heads are listed as big block heads but the head gaskets are listed as 361-400 and 426wedge-440 is this because of the block bore size? If I remember the heads I have came off of a 440. thank you for the help

Yeah it`s for bore size. Get a gasket as close to your actual bore size as you can ,they`ll seal better and keep the volume of your combustion chamber to a minimum. Depending on the year of your 383 ,it may have shared the same heads that the 440 came with.

That does make any sense, the 400 has a bigger bore than the 440 so I would think that gasket would be shared with the 440 not the 361.

I think there's only one part number. There may be a separation to list all the gaskets, of which the valley pan is different.
