Hey guys I'm in need of transmission advice for a 1000hp turbo 5.7 Hemi build. I've been searching, and the threads I have found seem to be split 50/50 as to staying with a 727/904 vs switching to a glide/th400. At this point the gm transmissions seem the way to go. I'm in no way a purist, and what matters to me is building a transmission right the first time and of course COST. I enjoy engine r&d so I will be starting around 600whp, but 1000+ is to be expected in short time.

The car will see the track from time to time, but my goals will be mph related; not et so I'm hoping to keep launches on the softer side to help prevent failure.
Car will be a 71 duster with very little weight reduction so I'll probably be in the 3200lb area with driver.

I've never built a transmission, but it does interest me if it's an option. So which transmission, and which parts should I be looking at?

Also, if anyone has some good thread links to either here or other sites with good information on the subject that would be much appreciated.

Your choice of transmissions is an interesting read. My ex employer has had in his race car the powerglide, a 727 and a 904. His car is a Pontiac GXP with a Steve Schmidt 500 in Pro Stock engine. He used the powerglide but when he stepped up to run the car in BA/A, the two speed didn't fill the bill. His next transmission was the 727, but he always had it in the back of his mind to run the 904 because of the lighter weight. I found the 904 with the Chevrolet bolt pattern for him, and with the 904 he at one time owned the BA/A et and speed record. So, in answer to you question, they'll all handle the HP, and will need HD componets to keep them alive. No matter which transmission you chose, a transmission using stock components will not live very long. They all need help once you've upped the power up front.
If you go to www.tcsproducts.com, you can see his race car and see all the HD/high performance hard parts they manufacture. The 800 number is good throughout North America, and should you make the phone call ask for Paul. Paul is very knowledgeable and at one time owned a high performance engine shop and was a crew chief on a Pro-Mod car.

Man,you need to give me a call. I'm in Phoenix, and build Dodge autos.
