I'm nowhere near this step yet, but I have a question about the black-out hood treatments on many Dusters.

When I get to the step of finally painting my car, how do I prepare to blac out the hood? Is the entire vehicle painted with the base color first, and the black is painted on top (I assume this is the correct way to do it), or is the hood masked and shot with just the flat black paint?

What flat black paint color/product are most people using here? Is there any difference in application compared to the base color of the car? Is it just a single stage type paint?

Check this thread out danmc77. Some good info there.

I did my scoops with Rustoleum satin black.

Thanks for the link. I like the idea of the hot rod black that is the single stage. I'll be willing to pay the expense if I get the results I'm looking for. I really like the look/sheen of moparwedden's Duster he posted in that thread. I'm pretty confident I'm going to go with the same product he used.

Can anybody offer some guidance on how it's applied and the car/base paint prepared?
