Hello all ,

I was hoping y’all can shed some light on what all I will need to take off and or need to in bolt to get the block drains out . The passenger side looks pretty easy to get too . Car is a 69 dart with power steering and full length headers , 340 with automatic .I can not pull an engine at my place due to it being a rental. Any tips would be greatly appreciated also thank you for your time .

If you're talking about the 2 water drains, I can get mine out with headers still bolted on and engine bolted down. Just need a 3/8 drive swivel, with the proper hex socket on and a couple of extensions. A little patience and it's pretty easy.

My headers are TTI.

A 6 point name brand socket so it won't round off the hex plug. Some people install these way to tight.

I like to use 1/2" drive and a breaker bar, but don't know how much room you have with headers.

Jack it up and they should be pretty easy to reach. You may need to take a piece of coat hanger and poke around in the hole. They get covered over by casting sand and other crud. I replaced mine with two petcocks to make it easy to drain for the winter.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone. I got the drives side to move so it’s not stuck . But will have to go back and drain a flush it when I have more time to do it.
When I go to put the drain plug back in how tight does it need to be? To the treads need to be sealed with anything or will the make it harder to get out of this ever needs to be done again ?

Thank you

I would replace the plug with a radiator drain type. They are brass based.

I like to use the factory steel plugs if they are not rounded off. Wire wheel the threads. I like to put anti-sieze on the threads. Tighten to 25 ft Lbs. Pipe threads are tapered, they won't fall out,

yes use sealant, either thread sealant in a tube or teflon tape. Having it there will make it easier to tighten accurately and easier to get out. I use stainless steel tapered plugs from our hardware store. remember you can always tighten them a bit more of they weep.
