So I have a basic understanding of the wiring of the ignition system the previous owner however.... did not, he the wrong wires to places they didn't need to be and spliced in places I don't think anyone will ever understand.

Long story short I have a 360 with electronic ignition in it. The brown wire off the middle bulk head wire connector was connected to the balast resistor, and was in bad shape I ran a new wire. The Blue wire from the voltage regulator is cut and has two red wires spliced into it and then taped off.

So here is the delema I have the brown wire routed to the balast resistor and I'm not sure what the previous owner was trying to do with the blue wire from the regulator but I know it has to go somewhere, I have two different diagrams one says run the brown wire to it (for a 2 pin balast) and the other says use existing wire but doesn't specify color of the wire :banghead: (for a 4 pin balast).

what goes where?

Year and model would help. Is this an original 360 car? If not, then state original engine too please.

The 'traditional dark blue' coming out of the bulkhead is the only switched ignition "run" wire coming from the interior to the engine bay

Depending on the year, it supplies

the switch side of the ballast

the regulator power (I or IGN terminal)

on70/ later cars also supplies the light blue going to one alternator field terminal

on some cars also powers electric choke if used

idle solenoid if used

one or two smog doo dads if used (distributor solenoid, etc)

The brown only comes from and goes to one place. The brown comes from a separate dedicated contact in the IGN switch, through the bulkhead, and to the coil + side of the coil

On most cars the "ignition run" (blue) is dead in "start," so the brown is the only ignition source during start.

It is a 1969 dart, with from what also the previous owner told me was a slant 6 car

Ok so that makes since for the brown wire, what is the switch side of the ballast? The dark blue wire isn't hooked up form the voltage regulator and I am unsure of where it goes.

One side of the ballast goes to the brown wire and coil positive. End of that story

The "switch side" is the opposite end of the ballast, fed by the ignition switch. That point branches out to feed of power to the other items I mentioned. So the "I" or "IGN" terminal of the regulator hooks to that same "switch" end of the ballast (The dark blue might originally PHYSICALLY have gone to the regulator and branched back to the ballast, but same thing electrically.)

Here, by the way, is a free shop manual you can download, thanks to AbodyJoe
