What is the best way to sharpen up boady lines on a 70 swinger? I ma using
doors that had the trim piece in the middle, and these holes were welded shut, but now I need to cover and straighten the body line with filler. can it be done with tape, or is it a process of sanding both planes to straightness.

Prime the door with a high build primer surfacer.Run a piece of 3/4" masking tape on the bodyline, and with the longest sanding block(or better yet a hutchings speed file) with 220 grit open coat sand paper, sand at an angle towards the taped bodyline.Remove the tape and run another piece along the blocked panel and block sand towards the tape.
You may have to re prime the panel and repeat the processs.
I hope this helps you.

Tape is the ticket. Use the tape as a guideline, sand up to it and you should have super crisp body lines.

What he said :-D Just make sure you get your tape perfectly straight, it wants to stretch into a bit of a curve sometimes when you're pulling it tight. Depending on how shoddy it is the primer may not be enough so you may need to use filler.

Here are some sanding blocks that work well for blocking bodylines:Just remember, the longer the block the straighter the line

What a good idea. I have been trying to fix a big dent in my Demon driver door. It goes right through the body line and I just cant seem to get it very strait again. I am going to have to try this tape thing out.

It works like a charm, pure genius :-D

use the green 3m tape a little bit more out of pocket but well worth it

I agree, tape is the way. You can use some thick high build primer but its faster with something like evercoat metal glaze.
