Does th “E9” mean Los Angeles built ? And what is the “emd30 L “ mean ?
The E9 is a L.A. built car, and is actually reversed compared to the car's V.I.N.
I take it that the picture of the numbers are from the driver's side trunk gutter with the weather seal for the trunk removed.
EMD30L is probably the stamping number for the panel and my best guess is that the ''L'' at the end is for left side or driver's side.
So, for example, if the car was a plain jane dart 2 door hardtop, the dash V.I.N. would be something like LL23B9E107858.
LL is Dart low price class, 23 is 2 door hard top, B is 225 slant 6 engine, 9 is the last digit of the model year (in this case 1969),
E is the production plant which is Los Angeles, and 107858 is the 6 digit sequence or serial number for the car.
Another note is that the car is a fairly early build car, being the 7,858th car built (including all car lines, not just Darts) in L.A. for the 1969 model year which started in early August of 1968.
My best guess would be the car was built sometime in late August to early September, 1968.
I hope this helps...
