Boulder Fires

And 2 play for pay borate bomber DC-10s parked at the airport 1 1/2 mile from here :wtf:
couldn't fly, 60mph winds with 100mph gusts. That's why it spread so fast. Was just watching the news talking about the homes lost. They talked about on home on the block still standing, lost on the fact his sprinklers were running. Smart man.

Brush fire near here a couple years back, right on the border of Vandenberg AFB and real close to one of the oil patches and in the middle a little community called Vandenberg Village. They painted a lot of homes Borate Red to save them.

I don't know why you guys keep calling it Borate? LOL Borate was only used for two years in the 1960's and was discontinued because it's basically like dropping Agent Orange.
Phos-check is what has been used for 30+ years.

I’ve been dropped on a few times. The planes are very effective at slowing the rate of spread but it’s the crews on the ground that actually puts the fire out.
There isn’t anything either resource can do if it’s too windy.

Rhis one had a little wind on it at first and we thought we were going to lose our aircraft. They stayed overhead and did one drop. We could’ve caught it without a drop but less work is always much appreciated. Still stayed out there overnight working. Froze my but off that night.
