A buddy and I just finished rebuilding a 904 I had gotten used as a core. When we were about to replace the sprag with the "bolt in" one I had purchased, we noticed someone had gone through the trouble of "bradding in" the sprag.

Anyone ever run across this before? Wouldn't it be stronger that the bolt in I was going to use?

I'm not positive on what you mean by "bradding in" but I think your saying they used a punch or similiar blunt object to mash the aluminum around it to hold it in place. If so, no that is not nearly as strong as a bolt in sprague. In fact I can't see how that would actually help at all. The splines in the stock sprague are what keeps it from spinning in the case. A bolt in will not allow it to spin where-as the stock splines will not hold under a stressful load such as when something in the drive line breaks.
