Hey All:

Been fighting with this on my 71 dart for two days, and it is mega claustrophobic under that dash.
When I was trying to replace the voltage regulator on my dash cluster I must have breathed on the brake light switch.

Now I can't get the darn thing adjusted to save my life. The switch is either too far out so the brake lights are always on, or too far in so they don't come on until you're all the way on the pedal, which means during moderate braking, the lights wouldn't come on. IMO the pedal moving away[i/]from the switch activating the lights is pretty idiotic.

Does anyone have any tips or advice?

After this I swear I'm permanently going to have the imprint of the brake pedal tattoed into my cheek.

Thanks

Steve

How are you making the adjustment? The bracket has a slot where the retaining bolt passes through, and the switch adjustment is made there. I would imagine you can get it close by bending the bracket back into shape, then fine tune it via the adjustment slot.

The adjustment is not as fine as you think it is. There is plenty of travel in the pedal arm before you make even the slightest braking.
Heres how I do it (right or wrong)... determine the switched wire and shove a safety pin through its casing back away from the switch conneecter so its not in the way or near a ground source. Clip end of test light goes on the safety pin . Pointed end goes under the throttle pedal mount so grounded (lght on) and also out of the way but easily seen. Adjust switch per test light. No real damage done to the wire. I dont bother to tape a tiny pin hole.
