After a wheelhop episode had some noises coming from the trans, mostly in 1st/decel so pulled her apart and found all the welds cracked around the planetary pins. I am a total 904 rebuild noob and don't know squat about these trans. The pins wiggle the slightest amount within the cage.

The thrust washers on either end of this guy have gold showing. No big metal pieces in the pan. Everything else looks alright-ish. Haven't pulled apart the clutches but no other surprises. The other planetary is 4 pinion aluminum and looks like it was reconned by an amateur.

As an aside, I'm kind of surprised how much sharp casting flash there is inside the case. Deburring to follow.

Am I good to just clean and TIG and reassemble with new basic rebuild parts? The bands are cast and look usable.

I have seen them broke before, on a freshen up on my dad's 904 in his street/strip Dart Sport. I just cleaned and welded. The factory welds are not that good. But make sure all the planetary gears and pins are ok. There is a lot of casting flash in the trans, same as engine blocks. I clean it up .

Call A&A Transmission. Home - A&A Transmissions They will have everything you need. Good Mopar people.
Much appreciated!

That's good to hear. Definitely a concern that a piece of flash could fly into the gears and make it noisy. Guessing that may have already happened to be honest, as I did find a small pile of aluminum under the filter.
