Buying new vehicle, any tips advice??

I worked for Kia, for sometime. Although I hate to admit it, they are making some good dependable transportation now. If you are going the new route, do not let them suck you into a Demo or CAP Unit. You can get brand new that no one has sat their *** in for the same money. Also as said already, look around for a 2013 model. You still get all of the incentives and perks as if you were buying a 14 model. Keep in mind that on a lot of the new cars you can get 0% financing, as opposed to anywhere between 3% and 8 % depending on year and mileage. Good luck in your search.

..or go into several dealerships and a for a quote on a specific car,,,tell them you are doing think in 3 dealerships..low one wins..

And if they give you a price and say, "Let me know if someone else beats it..."

I like to tell them that they better give me their best price, because I'm not going to be a ping-pong ball going back and forth between dealers so they can keep knocking five bucks off (figure of speech).

Give me your best price right now, because if anybody beats it, I'm buying from them.

And if they ask, "what price did the other guy give you?", don't tell them the exact price. Tell them a price $300 - $1000 cheaper and make them work for it.

Or when they give you the price, tell them that you already have a better one and make them go back and get a lower price.

Like I said earlier, show them a stack of bills and don't be afraid to walk out. It will mind f*ck them. They hate to see money walking out the door.

When my son and I were looking at a newer used GTO, the salesman told us that they only let "serious" customers test drive the high performance cars. (They get many people who can't afford them just coming in for a joy ride). I pulled out $5000 in cash from my pocket and showed it to him (didn't even count it, just showed him "the stack"). He immediately walked away and came back with the keys.... Money talks....

Watch out for the dealer bull **** fees they try and add on

Now for buying new or used, if you didn't need to drive so much a used might be good deal. But used car prices are so much higher now with the cash for clunker deal here and taking so many used cars out of the market that should be there.

Yeah been a few years but it is still affecting the used car prices.

I have bought a lot of cars, do not fall in love with one or a model. Even if you do, POKER FACE and don't show it.

Be ready to walk out

If you are not comfortable with the salesman or dealership, LEAVE.

Once you find one you like, do your homework

And really, the miles she puts on a car if it is a year old model when you buy it the value will not matter unless it is a junk car you need to unload and then try the lemon law

My wife's vehicle was a year old model new on lot and we got 13,000 off by the time all rebated and my employee discount.

HOMEWORK is the best way to buy a car.

I looked for 1 1/2 year before buying my used 2007 Mustang 3 years ago. I think I got a fairly good deal. So if you don't have to be in a hurry, DONT

And if they give you a price and say, "Let me know if someone else beats it..." .

I don't..I tell them it is a one off quote..low buys. It helps that there is no trade in. The car/truck has to be new... We have done this twice. One dealer gave us 8K off the asking price compared to another. makes you wonder what the mark up is...

I don't take the vehicle in to be serviced unless it is a warranty thing..

Lots of good advice here guys. I gotta chk for a 2013 with low miles and see if what the difference is with the financing differences between new and used.
Keep the comments rolling in.
Thanks!

My dad was a pro at the car negotiating / buying thing. As long as I can remember, he bought a new car every year or two. He always got high trade in value, and somehow he walked away with the deal he wanted. This worked for him, but I have only bought one new vehicle, ever. I don't like the way they depreciate so much in the first year. That's why I like to let someone else get beat up on the depreciation and buy a "like new" used, low mile car and save thousands.

Exactly, that's why I tell them to give me their best price, because if the other guy is cheaper, I'm not coming back for him to requote.

It's a game that they play to get the top dollar out of you. You have to throw it back at them and say, "no, you have one shot and that's it." So they have to go as low as they can or loose the sale...

Are all the new 2013 models already gone? They have a data base to locate any that are sill around. Those will be your best deal and you should be able to get the same 0% interest.

The sales rep said all new 2013 are gone...dunno if its a tactic or not...

Go online to some of those car sites and see if another dealer close by still has any. Some sites I've seen (can't remember where) did used to list some of the cars that dealers have in stock..

I saw this and it reminded me of this thread.

Please don't get offended, no offense meant towards Lori. Just take the humor in the whole "man vs woman" relationship issues (if you've ever argued with a woman, you can relate to this)...

Hope it gives you a well needed laugh this morning...
