Has anyone ever tried using a hydrulic rollers on a solid roller cam? Building a 5.9 magnum motor stroking to 408 I have a good set of roller lifters. I was just wondering if anyone out there been this route. there are so many more cam choices for solid rollers than for hydrulic rollers also the prices are a lot lower. one machine shop where I live says it will work just fine. any experiences with?

Has the machine shop actually done it? If not I would think twice. I think there would be a problem with lifter preload that a hydraulic lifter requires and how much a solid roller cam expands when hot. I'm not sure if there is any way do decipher how much a roller cam will expand in reference to hydraulic lifter preload. Just my .02.

the issue is the rate of lift. A solid roller lobe will be too fast for the hydraulic lifter to handle. It will compress, and on the closing side, will not be able to rebound fast enough. I would say don't try it.
