I agree. A good rb-motor will get you in over your head pdq. I remember years ago, I built a 383 for a buddies '67 sattelite. Lightly ported 906's, flat-tops .020 out, 509, street dominator and a 800 dp, backed with an 11" converter & 3.91s, ran high 12s. Car had the manual 10" drums on it. A mutual friend who restored Corvettes for a living was driving it, and I had kinda warned him that it pulled harder & stopped slower than what he was used to. So he is driving it on this semi-rural back-road with a 4-way stop about 1600' feet away. He punches it from a slow roll, goes into second and third @ about 6300 rpm, winds it up to about 5000 rpm in drive & starts braking for the 4-way stop. Im in the passenger seat thinking, "hes going WAY faster than he realizes". Blew the four-way stop hard on the brakes at about 50 mph in a cloud of dust & flying leaves, with a distinct look of panic on his face. It was a pretty quiet area, & I had pretty big huevos in those days, so I was laughing, but he was shook. Afterwards, he said, "well, it sure goes, but it sure dont stop!.
