Can it handle the power?

Are you running 1.6 rocker arms?
Which ICON pistons were you thinking about?

With 1.6 rocker and that cam I think you will get around 500hp.
yes 1.6 , i already have a top end on my current 340 , the 318 bottom end is already built.

Are the pistons the flat top or dished?

You listed the 238 duration mopar cam, but you said you might change it... which way do you think you want to go?

I'm still undecided on what cam for my 390 build because I have to run P/B, A/C Holley sniper and 3,000 or less stall.

I have a 4 speed so duration is unlimited lol

Yeah, 99.9% of mopar strokers are Carburated with manuals or high stall. I drove a buddy's 383 stroker camaro with a 3,500 stall and I didn't like how it drove on the street.

The only 390 stroker build/video I've seen made great power but was to much cam for what need. It would work for you, he made 535hp/ 535tq with an edelbrock RPM AIR-GAP with TF heads. You said your RPM heads are ported, so with the victor intake....power should be close.

Here is the start up, running video and the dyno video. I like that he gives All the Spec on his buulds and the dyno videos.

That thing has got to have the worst idle sound of any mopar I've ever heard. Perhaps whoever that is doesn't own a timing light

It is damn near impossible to find aftermarket 2 bolt caps any longer.
You just cut the outer part off the four bolt Milodon ones. I was going to do this for my extra 340 but I found a set of caps locally. If you are building a 318 block and concerned about the main caps, you can fit 340 caps or the aftermarket ones.

i think that was a happy dyno , seen a few stroked 318 400 to 450 hp on most of them with a dyno I know is calibrated properly

Do you have any links to those videos? This and the one done by Nick's Garage are the only 5.2l stroker dyno runs I've seen.

Do you have any info on those builds? What heads? Mildly ported stock magnums?

This guy also built 2 identical 408s, one with Speedmaster heads and the other with the TF190s. The Trickflow engine was up 50-60hp.

400hp, I hope they only bought a cast crank, small cam and KB pistons. Just mildly ported the stock headsl and reused the stock rods. Spending $2,500.

Just a mild cam, headers and performer manifold on a 5.9 magnum made 350hp/417tq.

I normally don't click on his videos but had to after reading your comment. Holeeeee, does that thing sound bad. He's got the curb idle so high that it will stay running while it misses like a gatlin gun. J.Rob

I don't. Almost 400 cubes and TF heads should make 500hp+ with just about any decent cam. I'm not talking about a .484" Purplejunk cam here. J.Rob

I just watched the Nick's Garage dyno run again.
LA 318 stroked to 390ci
10.5 compression
Ported #587 la iron heads stock valve sizes
Performer intake 750 carb.
(Cast iron manifolds)
Comp 231/237@ 0.050, .525 lift hyd. FLAT tappet
Made 406hp@ 5,400rpm / 442.7TQ@ 4,200rpms.

Big difference between that and one with 243/251 roller .597/.603 lift , TFS190 heads and 11.8:1cr.

That's the weakest 4" smallblock I've ever seen tested. Is that the one with massive blow by out the breathers?

I don't know about any breather blow by. I just posted it in response to the poster that said he seen 400-450hp and the 535hp dyno run was due to dyno calibration.

Just showing how mild a build has to be to make Only 400hp. Also to show how much More HP potential a big roller cam with TFS 190 heads have over mildly ported stock heads and a flat tappet.

Do you have any links to other 390 builds?

Thinking I might have to build a boosted setup to get the streetablity AND Numbers I want.
