I just rebuild my heater box for my cuda then realized im nt goin to need it so i would like to put it in my scamp since that kne is on the frits and looked like the heater core leaked at one point and rusted some of the lines and hinges. I was curious as to ifbpossible how would i remove the box without removing the dash or is that not an option thanks!
Shane!

I pulled an A/C heater box out of a '74 Dart without removing the dash. I did pull the radio before I pulled the heater box, I think it would probably get in the way. I also had the glove box liner and heater controls out of the car, but the dash panel was still in place. Not sure if you need the glove box liner out or not, although it did make it easier to get at the hardware with it out.

Reinstall will probably be a little more interesting though.

I just started to pull the a/c heater box out of my Dart last night. I was wondering if removing the radio and the glove box would make it easier.

Thanks..............Ted

Definitely remove the glove box. Not even sure you can get it out otherwise. The radio might help but probably not essential. With the glovebox out, you can easily see the top cables and connectors, plus stick another hand in. Problem is, the glovebox is made of cardboard and may fall apart, but your year has replacements fairly cheap.

I have a nice plastic glove box liner for $15 plus the ride and you don't have to worry about spills or breaking. PM me if interested

Absolutely no reason to remove the dash structure just to pull the A/C-heater box. Definitely makes it easier, though, if you remove the glove box because you have to get up on top to remove/reattach the defrost vent hoses. Disconnect cable from control switch, all vacuum lines, and electrical wires. Be very careful with the vacuum control switch - they're usually brittle by now and the small plastic nipples for the vacuum lines snap off with little encouragement.

I did all mine in my duster with the dash in. no glove box liner in. its been a couple years since i did it but I want to say it took maybe 20 minutes to remove and about the same to install. I also didnt have any seats in the car at the time either so it was easy to sprawl out and get to everything and no seats in the way of moving the box in and out.
