Can someone tell me what the radio noise suppression capacitor near the instrument cluster voltage regulator on a '72 Valiant does and if it slides into the same middle slot that the regulator came out of? I'm trying to fix my fuel and temp gauge by installing a new regulator. When I pulled the old one out I didn't notice if the end to the radio capacitor was sharing one of it's slots or not. As or right now I have them both plugged in and my fuel and temp gauge is still not working. It's so frustrating mot being able to see how much fuel I have. I drive this car every day and have ran out of gas on a couple of occasions already. Thanks!

Can't tell you where it plugs in, but the capacitor keeps the electricity from the engine from interfering with the radio.

The early models have a capacitor connected to the 12v input terminal on the regulator that's built into the gas gauge.
The terminal is labeled "I" on the circuit board.
The capacitor looks like the one the distributor uses.
I don't know if it's for the radio or not. Hope this helps...

That cap connects to the center terminal of the regulator, which would be the positive input. The gauges should work without it. It probably reduces a popping sound that one may hear when the regulator's contacts open and close. It wouldn't affect the gauges operation unless the contacts aren't making a good connection without it.
