Installed the 2" spacer underneath the 750 cfm carb. Still using the solid roller lifters.

Now, I don't know what you are looking for performance wise James, but the first dyno run in this post is what you might expect with your present cam and carburetor, if you have your heads ported.

James,
With your miss match of parts and low compression and a bad cam.
There is only one way I would go to make a bad *** wild car.
Keep the 3.55's
Call the Super Charger Store and order there super charger.
Then order a F.A.S.T. 2.0 fuel injection system.
Get a super charger cam.
Now go have fun.

Damn nice thinking! :thumleft:

Are there any roller cams that in production out there that arent "bad"

400 low deck block. 512 stroker kit from 440 source. 9.5:1 compression. Hydraulic Roller cam somewhere around .630 lift. Will post duration when I find the cam card. Holly 750 with edelbrock air gap intake. Heads are the stealth heads from 440 source. MSD everything. tti 2" headers. timing set at 15 initial 35 all in by 2500. 3.55 hears soon to be swapped for 4.10s. 3500 stall. Engine is painted light blue.

What is an Edelbrock air gap for a 400 block? Single plane, dual plane? Have you a part number? You should have at least 20 degrees initial, and on he dyno runs we have posted we are using 39 degrees total on 91 Octane from the Stinker station.

Your roller cam isn't bad. It will be good for 6000 rpm and 600+ horsepower and can make 625+ lb-ft at or around 3500 rpm.

There are no bad roller cams out there, just mis-used ones. What valve springs are you running on the cam? Who's lifters are you using (part #?) and what do they recommend for pre-load? What pre-load are you using? What is your oil pressure at rpm?

Seemingly my current set up just quits at 4,500 or so :(

Your stock Stealth head flow will limit you to a horsepower peak at about 4400 rpm with a 512ci engine.

IQ - yeah - I figured there was more to it...lol. Just busting you on it. I agree on the lifter bores - I tend to avoid any hydraulics unless I'm told to now.

James - The engine is a package. As good as it's lowest part. As Mad noted - the heads are not being fully utilized even in their stock form with what you have. However, you need to define what "maxing out" means for you. The 496 I just did used stage II+ Stealths that flowed in the 310 range. With a custom solid flat tappet it will pull past 6300. Hasn't been dyno'd yet but it replaced a 480hp 383 that went 11.80s. The owner swears it will match that and walk by his 550hp Shelby Mustang. This is an Ebody Challenger, with a 3K stall, and 3.23s on repro bias plies. It runs a Holley 850 4150 series on an RPM, through the HP manifolds. BTW - all 383 intakes are air gaps ;).

I believe these are my lifters: comp

oil pressure is around 70 psi at rpm. I am unsure about the spring set up. I can call my machinist tomorrow.

70 psi, that should be sufficient. We are running 72-73 psi.

If you are running the Comp 8921-16 lifters, make sure that whoever is setting the preload follows Comp Cams instructions, [ame]http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Instructions/Files/COMP4-115.pdf[/ame]

It would be good to know the spring pressures. In our case we have chosen to run 155# installed height and 420# over the nose.

Though we have pulled to 6300 rpm successfully, I will have the owner limit the engine to 6000 rpm. This will give him 127 mph in high gear which should be enough for his street car.

AGAIN, A 512 will require more airflow than an unported Stealth head will provide.

I was referring to you wiping out a lobe on you cam.,not that your cam was bad.
There's a lot of good roller cams.
Just have one made for your combo.

Today is the day I bury my head... In the end the throttle linkage was incorrectly adjusted. I dont even think the secondaries were opening. Car rips and pulls to 5,900 hard. I am pleased. Thank you all.

+++ good job stickin with it bro

now just keep it tuned and run her like a mopar likes to be run

i was reading the thread and was about to post there is no way you should be stopping at 4500 i was going to have you check for fuel starvation. (fuel delivery issue)

i would have been close lol

awesome that you got it fixed. time to post up some pics for us :D

Indeed starving for fuel! Couldn't be happier. Learned a lesson to check stupid stuff first. I had the linkage set properly at first but used a new throttle return set up and I think it slipped a bit the first time I primed the motor to start the engine and I didnt think twice about it. Ill be at carlisle this weekend and Ill get a ton of pics. Thank you!
