Which "1 bbl"? Slants came with the Holley 1920, Holley 1945, and Carter BBS 1 bbls. I don't know which were in 1974 cars. If you want smooth driving and good torque, a 1 bbl is fine. Above maybe 3500 rpm, it will start to be limiting in air flow, but that is really spinning, like after flooring it and downshifting to 2nd at 65 mph, so consider if that is what you care about. If the engine isn't idling smooth, it could be the carburetor. I went thru 4 Holley 1920's to get a good one.
I think the Super Six 2 bbl conversion was great at <$50, but wouldn't pursue it at current prices. A 4 bbl intake makes more sense on a premium car like a Barracuda with $10K paint job. Your 1974, while a fine car mechanically, is not as desired and valuable as 67-69. My own long-range plan is cheap EFI on my slant.
