With some swap meets coming up I was wondering about looking for a "better" carb for my sons 74' /225. It has the 1bbl on it now. Should I look for a 2bbl? And what would be a good price to pay for one? We're both new to the whole /6 scene. Thanks

Super six 2 barrel

Looking through completed eBag listings, the cheapest I saw it go is $100, most expensive $178, most going for $125 to $150 with carb. Shipping may or may not be included..

Quote from link below: "Super Six assemblies turn up regularly on eBay and go for between $120 and $200, but only pay this much for a complete setup."

Here is a write up on the conversion to 2 barrel:

If you want to get slick, a TBI upgrade for that super six intake. ;)

Here is the performance option:

This runs around $325, then you get into headers and such, which for slants run about $500, is it worth the coin? Who knows, for headers, I'd probably make my own for that price.

Good luck, thanks if this helps!

Which "1 bbl"? Slants came with the Holley 1920, Holley 1945, and Carter BBS 1 bbls. I don't know which were in 1974 cars. If you want smooth driving and good torque, a 1 bbl is fine. Above maybe 3500 rpm, it will start to be limiting in air flow, but that is really spinning, like after flooring it and downshifting to 2nd at 65 mph, so consider if that is what you care about. If the engine isn't idling smooth, it could be the carburetor. I went thru 4 Holley 1920's to get a good one.

I think the Super Six 2 bbl conversion was great at <$50, but wouldn't pursue it at current prices. A 4 bbl intake makes more sense on a premium car like a Barracuda with $10K paint job. Your 1974, while a fine car mechanically, is not as desired and valuable as 67-69. My own long-range plan is cheap EFI on my slant.

I was just wondering if there was an easy way to pep it up a little, without throwing a good amount of $$ at it. Don't know which 1bbl is on it. Have only had it a few weeks. Will check. Was wondering if you could just throw a 2 on it. Which 1bbl is the best? thanks
