Carburetor questions

Afternoon all!

Still continuing my revamping of my 73 dart custom with pepped up 360.

The car is primarily going to be a street toy for junking and jiving about, not a show car or drag car.

I am installing an RPM air gap intake, and currently have an Edelbrock performer 1406 carb.

However, the carb has sat about 10 years and Likely will need rebuilt either way.

As I was searching about for a rebuild kit, I stumbled onto the AVS2 series.

Anyone have any experience with both that could tell if either had a benefit/detriment?

I know my performer is a 600cfm, and the avs2 I was looking at is a 650cfm.

I am also open to other recommendations of carbs if you have them.

Get a more performance oriented carb - Holley 650 D/P, Street Demon etc.
AVS2 is fine for cruisers but I wouldn't use one on a pepped up 360. They are also hard to start after sitting for a few days (whereas my Holley fires up easily after a few weeks).
They are easy to tune though.

AVS 2 is a perfect bolt on match to the Stock Build 360s with the 340 factory cams.

They are too much carb for the 318s.

1406 perfect match for 318s... and again bolt on and go.

I have an AVS2800 on my 408 stroker and it is an animal. The 650 would be an excellent fit for your application. The annular boosters really help with off-idle response. Be sure to get the reprogramming kit so you can fine tune the carb to what your engine wants.

That 1406 would be a terrible choice. It is the economy version and is jetted VERY lean. Why so many people are slap brainwashed into those, I'll never understand. The 1405 is the performance version 600 and is jetted for performance. IMO, I think a 600 of any kind is too small for even a stock 360. Remember, they came with an 800 CFM Thermoquad if they had a four barrel and a 750 CFM Quadrajet in later years. I think the AVS2 would be a good choice. But depending on how "pepped up" your 360 is, you might look at the 800 AVS2. They are very tuneable.

also, unless it's a 68 340 4spd cam it's the same as a 360 4bbl cam.
