When I bought my Duster a previous owner, used residential grade carpet cushion in the car. I thought it was covering up something and I was right. He had even put it in the trunk, I guess that is why I was alerted.
There was a chain of events that led me to rip the cushion out of the trunk and out of the passenger compartment.

My question is, what have you used for carpet cushion? Would you recommend it, would you buy it again for your next project car?

I am still in the process of getting all the cushion glued down to the floorboards, for another day or two.

Thanks in advance for your help

Standard carpet pad is jute. Works well but will do the same as the chopped foam residential
pad you had in there. Hold water like a sponge and can rust floors. Protect floors before you install.

I would definitely stick with automotive grade insulation. If u Google automotive interior repairs near u, u may find a local interior shop that could sell u some bulk insulation.

You can also get the jute insulation from carpet stores.
(I have a friend in that business, that's how I know for sure)

I ordered FatMan 80mm 50 sq ft. Should be enough to do the floor and maybe a door or two. When I finish and put the interior back together I will worry about the trunk.

BTW any North Phoenix members want to come over and teach me how to weld. I have a mig with no gas

What did you do about the plastic body plugs/caps on the floor. Did you remove them and paste it over the holes. Did you cut out the dampener and leave the plugs.
My deadener will be here in two days.

Leave the body plugs in place and cover them with your insulation....

I have replaced the spare tire wheel well and a piece of trunk floor below the brake lights and rear quarter panel. I welded it in place. And to say so myself the welding looks FUGLY. God awful, but it is secure.
I am going to grind a bunch of it out but it will still look Fugly.
My question is : should I put some body filler (bondo) in there, over the welds, to make it look less Fugly. Or should I just paint it with Rustoleum and let the world know I am a (very lousy) beginner welder?
