is carter still in busness ? any one know...i would like to find a good reman carter bbd carb.for 72 demon ,318.some told me holy bought them out,is this true ?

Napa is your best bet, do you have a carb? i can rebuild it. Aurora here
i belive its the carb, mixture screws out far to get some what of smooth idle, but now idles to high, compleat new ing system, car still bogs, some times with a lean missfire.this carb was rebuilt last fall by a out state reman company, there no help,90 day waranty is up,also still leaks at botom of float bowl.i have check for vacuum leaks.none, vacuum gauge needle is not jumping around.i pulled intake of yesterday, didnot see any sighs of leakage, camshaft looks good.also high speed miss or surge at times.can't figure this one out.wanted new or rebuilt to install, keep out carb for parts,i belive bowl is cracked .thanks.

The Carter BBD is such a simple carb to rebuild ; I can rebuild 'em in my sleep !

One of the BBD's weak points is in its Air Horn assembly : they are usually warped slightly at the Accelerator Pump Plunger's inlet .
This will cause fuel "sweat" and permit too much air intake .
Whenever I rebuild one with the warpage , I'll fill the void with Ultra Black silicone , and smooth the silicone out before it sets-up ; trim the extra silicone with a new , sharp blade .

IF your Demon's got its original carb , it should have a tag on it with its build date , part number , and the last-three characters of the Chrysler P.N.
Also , the casting date is , well , cast-into the fuel bowl's left-side ; this is in Julian Calendar format ( i.e. , "3651" = 365th day of 1971 ).

Carefully inspect any "remanufactured" carb for blunted mixture screws and Accelerator Pump Plunger operation .
I've got hold of "reman" carbs where the mixture screws were blunted , and-or the pump plunger stuck-open (plunger in the down position ).

While you're at it , check the choke pull-off , choke heater spring , choke plate's seating , and how the Throttle Body's blades seat .
Sometimes , the choke plate and throttle blades can have burrs and blemishes on them ; dress 'em down with super-fine sandpaper or crocus cloth .

Good luck to you :drinkers:

No, Holley did not buy out Carter (and if you have a "holy" carburetor, that's between you and god!

There is nothing such as a "good remanufactured" carburetor; remans are junk. See links on the topic from this post. The Carter name still exists; you can still buy Carter fuel pumps and such, but Carter carburetors are no longer made. The "new" BBDs you see all over eBay, usually described as "high top" or "low top", are very poorly made Chinese knockoffs. I obtained one and took it apart -- what a damn joke. I would not put one of these on a car unless I wanted it to catch on fire.

You might find a New Old Stock BBD, or if your '72 still has an original carb and not an abused "remanufactured" item you can send it to a reputable carb specialist such as Buzzard Carburetor or The Old Carb Doctor for refurbishment (which is a great deal more thorough than just rebuilding), or you can swap on a direct-fit brand-new Holley 2280 such as this one.

Ok, well if you get near aurora ill look at it. No charge

thanks dan...i like the idea of a new carb, less down time.this is a direct fit,no linkage ,fuel line or air cleaner mods. ? if so i am going that way,as of old carb. it's reman put on in 90s by frist owner,i sent to carb junkies for repair,i 'm not happy, may send it to buzzard.thanks

Yes, and it has some advantages. You can rejet the Holley 2280 easily, and it's got a built-in throttle return spring which is a good safety factor.

hay dan thanks for the info on holley carb...only one i can find is the one on ebay..waiting on reply from seller, was on holley web sight...they don't list economaster...did holley stop makeing them?where can find cross referance to carter bbd #6150s or6152 to holley # ? what other place should i look for this carb, tried many searches on internet

What questions do you imagine remain to be answered? It's the right carb for your application. Buy it or don't, but it is not going to cross-reference to any Carter number and the seller is probably silent because you are asking questions that can't be answered (and don't need to be).

thank for the reality check ,and thanks for you wisdom.

thanks slantsixdan and everone else, the ecnomaster carburetor fixed the car, runs great!!!!! i think air horn is warped on bbd.now just to save $$$ to get bbd repaired thank to all for info and offering to help.

I really like the Holley 2280. I've had terrible luck with BBD Carters and when the throttle shaft bores wear out it won't idle at the same speed twice in one day.
