Yesterday was not only Mother's Day, but it was my brother's birthday as well. So I took the two of them to Mohegan Sun in CT for the day.

Has anybody ever played Caribbean Stud poker? I never played, but my brother plays all the time. So he talked me into sitting down for an hour or so. I won a couple of bucks, lost of couple of bucks. Then... I got dealt a full house. If you don't play the game, here's how it works. The dealer has to "qualify", meaning he has to have an ace-king or better in order to play.

If he doesn't qualify, and you (the player) don't go in, then you lose your ante. If you do in and he doesn't qualify, then the dealer matches your ante.
If you go in and the dealer qualifies, then you play your hand against his. You can only bet double your ante. So if you ante $10, you can only bet $20. If you've got a higher hand you win. A pair pays 1-1, 2 pairs pay 2-1, three of a kind pays 3-1 and so on.

A full house, like I had, pays 7-1 plus a $100 "bonus". I happened to ante $25 on this hand as I had won a couple before. So I bet $50 and was looking forward to getting $450 ($100 bonus plus 7 x my $50 bet = $350).

Of course, the dealer didn't qualify.

So I only got $100. :-( I should've been happy about that, cuz the rest of the day was just as bad. I left the Caribbean Stud table up about $200 and found a $10 blackjack table. 10 minutes later I had lost the $200 I sat down with and was reaching into my pocket for more money. I'd get a 16, dealer would get 17. I'd get 17, he'd get an 18. I'd get a 20, he'd get a blackjack. Got up from that table, sat down at another. As soon as I sat down the yellow card came out of the deck, time to shuffle AND change dealers.

I decided to leave the Blackjack table and play the slots for a while. I sat down at a 5 cent and didn't win a thing. Tried another machine, same thing. So I tried a quarter machine. Won a little, lost some more. Then I ran into my brother, he had just left the Caribbean Stud table and was up $500. My mother was about even. I was down $380 on the day so I decided to sit at the bar and have a cold Bud. The bartender pulled a nice big frosty glass out and pulled the tap... foam. Empty keg.

After that I decided I was done with all of it, went out into the middle of the two casinos and sat there by myself for 2 hours until they were done winning some more.

Not a fun day for me.

I'll play poker with friends, but casinos are there to make money. Your money.

Some may tell you how much they win, but they always forget about what they lost.

That's true! Most times I come home close to even, or even up a couple of bucks. But this time... everything I touched turned to crap it seemed.

I just like playing, Blackjack mostly. I'm not in it to make money because I know that in the long run I can't.

Well now you can visit your money next time you go back! I look forward to when I go to Las Vegas 'cause I know I'll always have something to visit.

Think they'll let me see my money when I go back? ;-)

Sounds like a couplpe of my adventures!!! Next time try texas hold em against the dealer if you have that at the casino's round you. Its easy, fun and sometimes pay big if you play the bonus...

I have not been to a casino in a few years.
My wife and my mom would go and I would hang close buy.
I like the live music and drinks while they have fun.
