Can anyone tell me what kind of fasteners you use to mount the center console to the brackets?

I use sheet metal screws that are the right size and length. I found that out by trial and error. Not too hard to do. Just went to my local hardware store.

i'm assuming then that you had to grind the back of the brackets down so they weren't to thick for sheet metal screws of that small diameter??

The metal is close to 1/8" thick and the slots are punched out not cut out

yep 11 gauge sheet metal. A good stainless screw should be hard enough to cut its way through. Do try to get it right the first time as the screws tend to walk back to the same first hole.
