Hi guys, new to this forum and have a question about my 1972 dodge dart(demon). I have lost the ignition and trunk keys and was wondering would it be cheaper or easier to replace the ignition on the steering colum or have a locksmith make a key for it? Also where would the best place be to get a ignition for it? Thanks all.

Welcome to FABO! Pricewise, it would probably be cheaper to have new keys made by a locksmith. If the car looks to be all original, I'd pull the RH door lock cylinder, take it to a locksmith and have a key made for it by code or with those same pins. With any luck, the key will fit both the drivers door and the ignition switch too. If not, you're not out to much. In that case, I would buy a new set and install them myself if you have the expertise. The trunk lock is a toss up on cost. Pull the back seat and gain access to the trunk area. Hopefully it's not full of stuff to get in the way! Unbolt the trunk latch to get the lid open. Pull the lock cylinder out and take it to the same locksmith if you'd like to get a coded key thet fits your glove box lock, or just buy a new one if you don't care about (or don't have) a glove box lock. If you can't find an ignition switch/door lock set, let me know and I'll check to see if I have any more new ones stashed away, If you want a used set, I have those too.
Thanks, Mark
