does anyone have a diagram of the external connection at the fuse box to show what wires are located on those connectors and what they are

Cool. You can download a 72 manual at the link I posted.

page 8-148 and 8-150

"Accessory feed" means it's a hot feed from the ignition switch

"battery feed" means it's hot all the time from the ammeter

the "instrument" feed is NOT hot unless you turn the park or headlights on
