Check out this vintage big block intake - very odd

I used to have one of those for a 392 hemi. one of those things it's worth building a motor for even if it just sits in the corner and looks good :glasses7:

talk about a tuning nightmare, I would hate to rip apart 6 carbs to find the one with a stuck float #-o

Very popular style intakes back in the 50s and 60s especially on engines families that had low and tall deck versions as all that needed to be changed was the hose length.

Those are a very popular intake for the early Hemi crowd. Also of interest, Google "U Fab Intake" those are still made.

Oh I don't know. That was back when people actually loved doing it instead of sittin on the computer all day like us. LOL

My buddy is running that set up right now on his stroker nail head. 6 Stromberg 97 carbs.
This car is STUPID FAST!!!! Yes it's all steel too.

That's a very cool car Ted. I always had a soft spot for the nail head's. I never owned one myself, but two grandfathers bought two new 63' 401 LeSabre's.....One a 4dr & one a vert. Great engines in there day for what they were intended for, smooth torque in a fairly heavy car. Stroked in that light car should be a ton o' fun. :)

Ted,that is one sweet ride. Love that era look.

So if 3 x 2 bbl is a six pack...

then is a 6 x 2 bbl a twelve pack or half case???

Does the # 5 & 7 cylinders run lean since they fire sequentially and the same carb feeds both cylinders???

Or can they scavenge enough from the others???

You're right. They were great engines in their day. But they're almost almost as whacky as a 348/409 chebby.

Yup, it really is period correct. He originally had Willwood brakes on it but took them off when he found the giant finned Buick drums.
The only thing that's really not correct on the car is the Doug Nash 5 speed.

I wonder if you could drill and tap it and run six BBDs.

I almost have that many laying around- all in VGC.

here. twilight zone

not real sure "no front brakes" is in the Big Book of 'how to build" one thing ta remember to OP original question, when this stuff made, we didn't have huge big 4 bbl carbs.

I guess if you're a guy that worries about that, then the 8 two barrel intake is for you. They are out there, too.
