Hello guys wondering if anyone knows if valve clearance would be good using comp cam xe295hl the valve lift is .564 intake and exhaust. I called comp cams they said perfect cam for my setup but I have to check the valve clearance. I have trw flat top pistons with the valve reliefs in them. The casting number on the bottom says 266-99. 340 with Edelbrock performer heads. The only way I know how to check is to buy cam and clay check clearance.

I was told my members here "if you haven't built that combination before you have to clay check the clearance". I did that on my motor assembly FWIW.

Ok thanks . Thats kinda what I thought . Been out of it for awhile and was hoping there was another fullproof way

Yes probably a good idea anyways . Better to be Safe after all the work done to this motor. Thanks
As a rule, I always check piston to valve clearance on all my builds. Too much time and money spent not to!

Always check. Got a cam that was stamped wrong. no. matched what I ordered but was way off somebody at the factory stamped it wrong. I had ran the combo before and had no clearance problems. Cam was supposed to be 260 at .050 and 615 lift. Instead it was 272 at .050 and 640 lift. Cost me a motor. Learned the hard way.

I measure clearance with a dial mic and checker springs, Starting at 20 before tdc and ending at 20 atdc every 5 degrees , 2 revolutions.
