cleaning/prepping vinyl for vinyl paint

-
A lot will depend on what's on the plastic that needs to be removed. In general, I like to use Spic and Span or TSP to get things ready to paint. GooGone for sticky stuff. Sometimes rubbing alcohol.

I always cleaned with good soapy water, dried, then wiped with laquer thinner, as I though it made it take the vinyl paint.
The SEM prep you buy says clean and softens the vinyl. These are new SmittyBuilt vinyl bucket seats so they need no softening.
Just open to suggestions from the DIU crowd like me.

On vinyl, wiping it down with acetone seemed to work for me.

I always use Soft Scrub and a medium density (bristle stiffness) brush. Then rinse. Then warm soapy water (Dawn dish washing liquid), Then rinse and dry thoroughly. I've never had a problem with vinyl paint/dye sticking. Also, always use an adhesion promotor.
